Patrick Star is an animated character in the hit Nickelodeon animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants. He is voiced by Bill Fagerbakke. He is an obese, pink, friendly, well-meaning but really stupid (though he did attend a community college)[1] sea star with good intentions. Starfish are said to have no brains, yet in one episode he accidentally placed brain coral on his head instead of his real brains after a fall off a cliff, and Patrick lives up to that image, as his head has been seen deflating. However, SpongeBob himself frequently attests to the "genius" of Patrick's harebrained ideas. Although Patrick may be light headed, to put it kindly, he is certainly one of the most beloved characters in the show. He owns a rock named Rocky that he thinks is a snail.

Patrick Star is SpongeBob's best friend and has quite a lot of things in common with him. Like SpongeBob, Patrick is an invertebrate. He often walks into the Krusty Krab with the greeting "Good morning, Krusty Krew!". He fancies himself quite the jellyfisher, and loves many of the same things that SpongeBob loves. His erstwhile goal in life was to defeat the giant monkey-man and save the ninth dimension, but SpongeBob convinced him to aim lower i.e. get a job at the Krusty Krab.

Patrick's house

Patrick lives under a rock, literally, on 120 Conch Street — two doors down from his best friend and 400 yards away from the Krusty Krab[2] Unlike most starfish, he sleeps on the ceiling (although he is shown sleeping in a bed in at least five episodes). When he is not jellyfishing, or adventuring with his friends, he's sleeping under his rock. He will sometimes come out a greet SpongeBob as he walks off to work.

There are many inconsistencies in the depictions of his house due to the nature of the cartoon and utility treatment of backgrounds; in one episode, his house is depicted to be nothing but a bed and a chest of drawers, yet in others he appears to have a kitchen and a living room. Also, certain episodes tend to depict the surface below the rock to be completely flat, while in others there is a considerable amount of depth below it. On The Spongebob Squarepants Movie and The Best Day Ever music soundtracks, Patrick sings a song called "Under My Rock" that was created for the soundtracks.

He also eats Krabby Patties at 3:00 in the morning[3]

Odd jobs

Patrick has worked a few odd jobs. He worked at the Krusty Krab four times, once in Big Pink Loser & in Bummer Vacation while SpongeBob was on vacation and twice in Arrgh though he is quickly fired both times (he only got the jobs because Mr. Krabs wanted to fire him). He also worked at the Chum Bucket "for almost five minutes"[4] but quit after Spongebob and he renewed their friendship, but it's unknown when he quit. In one episode, he received an award for doing nothing longer than anyone else – as such he quickly went into his rock to protect his title. Also, for almost an entire episode he was a complete genius but gave it up as he could no longer have any fun. When Sqiudward's arch nemesis Squilium, comes to town and Squidward tries to impress him by claiming the Krusty Krab as his own; in the episode Patrick is a waiter but soon gets hog-tied by the refined waiter Spongebob. The most consistent he has ever been with a job is jelly fishing, which he does on a very frequent basis.
